Job Description
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, the Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Teacher provides specialized physical education services to students with disabilities from kindergarten through grade 12. The APE Teacher is responsible for assessing motor development, designing and implementing individualized physical education programs, and collaborating with IEP teams, general education staff, and families to support student progress in physical and motor fitness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Conduct assessments to determine eligibility and needs for adapted physical education services.
+ Develop and implement individualized physical education programs aligned with students' IEP goals.
+ Provide direct instruction in motor development, physical fitness, and recreational skills.
+ Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and other service providers to integrate physical education goals.
+ Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of student goals and objectives.
+ Maintain accurate records of student progress and program effectiveness.
+ Serve as a resource to general education staff regarding physical education adaptations.
+ Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Education:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field (required).
Master's degree (preferred).
+ Credentialing:
Valid California Teaching Credential in Physical Education with an Adaptive Physical Education Added Authorization or APE Specialist Credential (required). [ctc.ca.gov] (
+ Experience:
Minimum of one year experience in a teaching or educational setting (preferred).
Experience working with students with disabilities in physical education settings (preferred).
+ Certifications and Clearances:
+ CPR/First Aid certification (preferred)
+ Valid California Driver's License
+ DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance
+ Negative TB test or risk assessment
+ Health clearance as required by district or state regulations
